The Turbulent Times

Issue #1
A Deal is Struck!
n an apparently brilliant move by the King of Gwent, an alliance
was formed between the states of Lerion and Gwent. The word around
Gwent is that a large sum of money and promise of troops secured
the alliance (see related story - this page). The purpose of such
an alliance is unclear but the potential advantages are sure to
encourage the common man. Official word on this agreement is expected
from the King's court anytime now.
Sources have it that the proposal of the king was hand delivered
by none other than the King's champion, Eira. It is also reported
that Afan, a local merchant, and Bos, that tower of a man seen
around town, left with Eira. However, Bos did not return with
them and instead Eira and Afan were joined by two new journeyman
who, this bard has learned, are Gailen (see wedding announcements)
and Alric the mystery man. We have learned that Bos was not killed
and is doing well. In fact he may be carving out a piece of history
for himself.
The details of their journey is sketchy but you can be sure to
read it here when the stories break.

Wedding Bells?
Helping the King appears to have its advantages. Gailen, of the
Peaks, hasn't been in town for even a few days and he already
has the Kings blessing to take his daughter's hand. Details of
the wedding have not been released but you can count on a royal
event.
A CALL TO ARMS!!
We knew it was coming. It was only a matter of time. The Saxons
have stolen from us and have killed our women and children. No
doubt they are organizing an all out assault on us as you read
this. That is why the King needs your help. Whether you are a
patriot or in need of the money if you prove yourself you can
become one of the King's elite forces. You can sign up at the
captain of the guard's quarters. Make no mistake we are at war
and your country is depending on you.

Grain to be taken to Lerion
You may experience a slight increase in the price of grain this
season. Our new allies in Lerion are experiencing the wrath of
the Saxons. The reports indicate that villages are being ransacked
by the Saxons and that whole countrysides are being wiped out.
So expect a shortage in supplies and prepare for it.
Sightings of White-Horned Horse spark concern
Several local woodsmen have come forward and tell a tale of a
large, white, horned, horse in the woods here near Gwent. No one
knows what this creature might be but the popular opinion is that
it is a messenger of some kind. We will just have to wait to see
if it has anything to say.

The Opinion Column
In these pages we print your opinions. Let us know what you think.
If you can't write than come over to our scribes and they will
dictate for you. Please keep your opinions on the king and our
wonderful country to yourselves, unless they are good - no point
in loosing our heads now.
I am glad that giant fellow [Bos] is gone. He scared me.
Saxons have relations with their horses!
Who is that new guy with Eira? He looks like a Saxon. What are
all those strange symbols on his staff? Shouldn't we be concerned
about this?
How come there are so many rats around here? Can't anyone do something
about these things? Are they good to eat?
Who were those idiots up on the mountain with that bonfire?

The Rumours Abound
Bow to King Bos?! It is rumored that the reason Bos did not come back was because
he found an opportunity to take over Ceri as King. If this is
true then it would certainly mean that he is not as dumb as he
made others believe. A related rumor has it that there is a call
to available men for hire in that area. I sure would hate to be
his taylor.
A Deal with the Devil. There has been talk for some time now that Goblins are responsible
for the turn of fortune for the British in South Saxon. If this
is true then we owe them our gratitude for surely we would have
lost that land in just a short time. The question remains what
happens when the Saxons are gone?
The gods must be smiling. The origin of this rumor is unknown but it is said that a small
group of adventurers are responsible for gaining the favor of
the gods for Britain. Eira is said to be one of those.
Enemy mine. There are whispers that there is a traitor among us here in Gwent.
Let it be known that the people of Gwent are watching.
A champion's champion. Eira's feats have not gone unnoticed. She is supposed to have
dispatched of a squadron of Saxons by herself. If only there were
more like her. |
Obituaries
Ode to Oswald. Oswald was hired by Afan, the merchant, a few weeks ago but
is now no longer with us. He died a warrior's death defending
Afan. The exact details are not known.
Local blacksmith died in freak forge accident. The shop was destroyed.
20 farmers died from lesions.
5 unexplained deaths.
2 babies missing - presumed dead

The Monster Corner
We have all heard of the stories of wondrous and mystical creatures.
Some we have no doubt exist but others make us wonder what plant
the person ate that told the story. This section is to provide
information to you just in case you ever run into one of these
creatures. This weeks creature is a Troll. Trolls are described
as being large (about 12 feet), ugly, strong and smelly. They
are usually found in small groups and are formidable foes. If
you see any creature with this description
..RUN! |
