Background/History: From early in life Jack Hawksmoor has been repeatedly abducted by unknown beings. During these periods, he would undergo painful operations and experimentation, but no one, not even his parents would believe his stories since to the outside world he was only gone a few seconds and no one actually saw him vanish. So Jack grew up alone and practically friendless, isolated by his experiences and altered mind and body. The alterations gave him an psychic link to cities. He could feel their pain and witness the past and future of urban areas merely by touching them. Even in the superheroic community, Jack felt isolated by his perceptions and limited mobility (he couldn't exist long outside of cities without suffering physical harm.) though he enjoyed working with Stormwatch and using his powers to stop the problems plaguing cities on a larger scale than he could personally accomplish.

It wasn't until Stormwatch disbanded and he was asked by Jenny Sparks to join her fledgling team that Hawksmoor truly began to feel a sense of freedom. The Carrier was large enough and complex enough that it effectively functioned as a huge mobile city allowing him exist inside it without discomfort. Jenny was one of the few people that didn't treat me him like a freak or an exploitable tool. He's come to enjoy working on a team and is beginning to form a tentative relationship with Angie Spica (The Engineer). It is too soon to really tell where it will lead but they do care for each other a great deal.

One important aspect of Jack's character that has changed a great deal during his membership in Stormwatch and his time on The Authority is his views on lethal force. At first, he abhorred the idea of killing. The few times he was forced to do it the act caused him great emotional turmoil. Since he'd empathetically felt the pain of murder victims and the emotional distress caused by death he hated the act on a very personal level. Slowly, he's become more and more inured to the idea and the performance of killing for a greater cause. On The Authority, due to his speed and toughness he is often partnered with Midnighter and one would have to get used to violence in that situation.
