Ecology: The Host is a unique amphibious animal seen in the vicinity of the Han River in the middle of Seoul, South Korea. It seems to be a form of mutated fish, with fins that serve as legs and grasping arms. It can survive for extended periods out of the water and will come onto dry land to hunt for the only prey large enough to satisfy its hunger -- man. The creature has a ravenous appetite and will often swallow its victims whole, carrying others away in one of its limbs or wrapped up in its tail. The Host will then return to its lair (located under a bridge crossing the Han River) and dump the bodies it as collected, letting them "ripen" before fully devouring them. When it does eat, it is capable of swallowing down three to five people at a time, and will vomit up the indigestible remains (bones, clothes, and so on), before eating its fill.
Personality/Motivation: Normal animal motivations.
Powers/Tactics: The Host is normally ambush predator, but has been down to pursue its prey, running down as many victims it can before collecting the remains. It usually performs a Grab with its jaws, and will then bite for HKA damage, doing so ver several Phases in order to fully swallow its prey. The creature's tail is highly prehensile, and strong enough to support the animals weight. It is not unknown for the Host to climb the support pillars for bridges and hide itself in the supporting girders under the roadway. It can even swing itself from place to place, and can quickly escape from determined pursuers by either climbing up into a bridge or simply leaping (often great distances) into the water.
Due to its great size and strength, the Host is very hard to injure. It seems to ignore more small arms fire, although shotguns fired at close range have affected it. Being a mostly aquatic animal it doesn't like fire and will shy away from open flame.
Appearance: The Host is a mutated fishlike animal that bears a vague resemblance to a wolf fish. It is roughly 30 feet in length with a large head and thick body tapering down into a long tail. It has two very large and powerful forelimbs (used for running) and a scattering of smaller legs along the rest of the body. The tail itself seems to have the bodies of large fish growing out of it, leading some to think the creature is actually some sort of colonial organism. It is grayish in color, with a mouth that splits into four sections, one clear eye, and one that is a mass of bubbly tissue.
Designer's Notes: The Host is the monster from the 2006 Korean film of the same name. The design is rather basic, and takes into account that the monster preyed on fairly normal people. For example, the creature can outrun most people with ease, but since it was chasing DEX 8, SPD 2, Normals with 6" of Running, all it needed was its 3 SPD to keep up with (and catch) them. It's length of 30 feet comes from the scene where it leaps into a small house/office trailer and also when it runs between several tractor trailers. It might be as long as 40 feet (most of it tail), or as short as 25 feet. The HKA is kept low because A) the creature's jaw does split into four parts, and B) all it needs to do is add its STR to dish out the hurt. The Tail Slap is based on its initial appearance, where it smacked someone into the river from a fair distance. It is alluded in one scene the animal can withstand being hit by a car and it is strong enough to tip over a small self-contained mobile home/store. The one thing I didn't give The Host was Swinging. I think that between its tail, its Acrobatics (trust me, it deserves that skill) and its STR, its more than capable of throwing itself around the underside of a bridge. You might want to give it Concealment and Steath, if only to represent its ability to end up in the oddest places.
Additional Designer's Notes: An article found on the CGSociety website (http://www.cgsociety.org/) gives a few more details about "The Host." the creature is female, has a five-way mouth, and her eyes are of different sizes. The creature is also a 45 feet long when fully stretched out, but as stated, most of that is tail.
