[This version of a Big Head uses wings to fly, but doesn't have the clawed legs.]

Ecology: Big Heads (a.k.a. Flying Faces, Flying Heads, or to the Inuit, Kajutaijuq.) dwell in thick forests, going abroad during great storms seeking to devour any living thing they can catch. The favorite prey of Big Heads is humans, and they are known to devastate entire villages in an effort to sate their hunger. Fortunately for man, Big Heads are solitary creatures and not often seen.

Personality/Motivation: A Big Head is driven primarily by hunger, which will lead it to consume virtually anything. Their hunger also makes them quite tenacious, and they will pursue prey over great distances, refusing to give up the chase if at all possible. However, Big Heads are not known to be exceptionally bright, and can be tricked into taking the wrong path or attacking the wrong target.

Powers/Tactics: Due to their size, Big Heads don't require much in the way of combat tactics. Their usual method of attack is to simply batter down obstacles through sheer mass and then swallow their prey in a single bite. Fleeing from a Big Head will simply encourage it to chase you, while attempting to hide will only enrage the Big Head as it searches for its prey. However, a Big Head can be driven off if opposed with enough force or if injured to any great degree.

Appearance: A Big Head is just that, a huge disembodied head of horrific visage with glaring eyes and a gaping mouth full of sharp teeth. The long straggly hair is extremely thick, and the only limbs are two furred and clawed legs. Another version of the Big Head lacks the clawed legs, but has huge bird's wings where the ears should be. Some Big Heads are said to be even larger than the one described here, with one Big Head supposedly four times as tall as the tallest man (around 24' in height).

Designer's Notes: The Big Head is a monstrous creature of Iroquois myth. The myths are unclear as to if the Big Head was a singular creature or if there were a number of them, but all of them stress the creature's insatiable hunger, as well as its general lack of wit. At least two popular Iroquois tales describe how a Big Head terrorized the local area, until a brave Iroquois woman tricked the Big Head into swallowing a mass of stones which had been heated red hot. Screaming in pain and unable to spit out the stones, the Big Head fled and was never seen again.

Due to its size and description, the Big Head is a creature probably best used in Fantasy Hero campaigns, although it could also serve as a Hunted for a Native American superhero character or as the servant of a Native American villain (provided either was of Iroquois descent).
