Hannah Bates was a colonist on Moab IV, a genetically-engineered and socially isolated colony of Humans.
In 2368, when a stellar core fragment of a collapsed neutron star threatened to destroy the colony, its leader, Aaron Conor, accepted help from the Federation. Exposure to the technology on board the USS Enterprise-D showed Bates how much more advanced the Humans outside her society had become.
Her experiences there, in particular her collaboration with Geordi La Forge, who would have never been 'allowed' to be born on the colony due to his blindness and yet demonstrated a technical skill at least equal to her own, challenged many of her beliefs about the colony.
Eventually, Bates requested asylum aboard the Enterprise and was granted it. Her departure encouraged others to go and, in all, 23 colonists left. The damage to the engineered society would take generations to heal.
"I was born to be one of the best scientific minds of my generation. And in the past five days, I have encountered technology that I have barely imagined. And I've got to ask myself, if we're so brilliant, how come *we* didn't invent any of these things?"
As one of the leading scientists in her society, she was an expert on biosphere homeostasis and theoretical physics.

As the name implies, a character with this Disadvantage has a very simple and clear cut view of how the world works, and becomes upset when he is forced to realize that the world very often isn't always black and white. It should be mentioned that this Disadvantage applies to more situations than when the players must team up with a villain, or are forced to let a villain go on orders from the government due to a plea bargain. It also applies to such situations as when a popular sports hero, viewed as a role model by the character, is arrested for murder. Or when the character's girlfriend says "I love you, but I don't want to marry you. "A character with the Moderate level may get upset and have trouble concentrating during such times, while a character with the Strong level must make an Ego Roll in order to continue operating normally in such situations. The latter character will be much more vocal about his dislike for the situation and may even do something rash to "correct" it.
