Background/History: Sakura Kasugano was always fascinated with sports, even as a very young girl. She enjoyed all manner of physical activities as well, including biking, swimming, tennis, baseball, soccer... Her parents condoned her somewhat unfeminine interests, as she was an only child and they tended to indulge their daughter and her interests. They also decided to try channeling all of this energy into something constructive, and enrolled Sakura at a local martial arts dojo, where she would be instructed in the art of Shotokan karate.
Sakura took to her training like a duck to water. She had always been enamored with paranormals, metahumans, the martial arts and professional wresting (almost in that order). Now she was learning the same style practiced by a number of famous Japanese superheroes, which for her, was virtually a dream come true. It also happened that she was very, very good at it.
Sakura's sensei was amazed by his newest student's skill, enthusiasm, and speed of learning. She picked up new techniques and skills at an amazing rate, and displayed strength and speed that seemed far beyond her years. Curious, Sakura's sensei investigated further, calling upon several other Shotokan masters for advice. What they discovered surprised them.
Sakura was a natural channeler of ki.
What this meant was Sakura was able to funnel her ki and the ki of the world around her, without consciously thinking about it. Her ability to effortlessly manipulate the energy of the universe allowed her to accelerate her reflexes, increase her strength and—if needed—project said energy in a blast of heat. Sakura quickly became the talk of the Shotokan dojo and received very specialized training from several different masters of the art. Unfortunately, Sakura's abilities not only attracted the attentions of many in the martial arts community, but also the notice of General Kenjiro Nakadai.
General Ken heard of Sakura's skill and wondered if she was related to the women of the Jade Tiger line. Deciding to not let such a chance pass him by, General Ken entered the dojo forcefully, desiring a firsthand demonstration of Sakura's powers. The resulting fight saw Sakura's sensei cut down, as well as several other students and instructors. Although her Shinkuu Hadoken managed to stagger the General momentarily, Sakura realized that there was no way she could defeat the General alone. Following her sensei's last wish, she fled, looking to escape the General instead of fighting him. Fortunately for her, Sakura ran straight into Sofia, Blue Mary, and Matrix, who happened to be in the area awaiting information on their next mission. The General—who had encountered Sofia and her crew before—decided fighting her and her team would be a useless expenditure of energy, and besides, the combat at the dojo had drawn for too much attention anyway. So he allowed Sofia to assists Sakura's escape, knowing that he could always find her again, and besides, in Sofia's care, who knows what Sakura would be able to do?
Sakura, in turn, realized that she couldn't return to her parents. The General had told her that he would keep an eye on her, and she didn't want to see her parents harmed. So she decided to join up with Sofia's team of mercenaries, since it was obvious they could help protect her from the General—not to mention Sofia promised her plenty of chances to train with her powers—in the hope she would finally become powerful enough to defeat the General on her own terms and be free of him once and for all.
Personality/Motivation: First and foremost, Sakura is a bright and cheerful 16 year-old. She enjoys life, physical activity and sports of all kinds. Her sessions with her sensei have instilled a deep respect and dedication to self-improvement, either mentally or physically. Thus, she has a strong drive to better herself in all areas, and hopes that by improving her own skills, she can eventually help others do the same. At the same time, her young age and general inexperience with the world around her sometimes results in Sakura not fully thinking things through. She is very skilled and knows it, unfortunately, she doesn't always remember she's not the only one.
Along with a strong motivation for self-help, Sakura also has a healthy respect for the world around her. She understands that ki energy is from the natural order of things, and that one should not use it wantonly. This also means that she doesn't like the idea of killing, especially killing for no reason. She herself will not kill, she will try and help anyone who looks like they are badly wounded and will object to the use of lethal attacks on the part of her teammates. Hsien-ko, who treats Sakura like a little sister, tries to use her non-lethal powers when around Sakura because of this belief.
Due to her nature and beliefs, Sakura could quite easily become a very principled superhero. Her final direction in life will greatly depend on her experiences with the Femme Fatales and with the resolution (if any) of her relationship with General Ken.

Powers/Tactics: Because of the nature of her powers and her training, Sakura tends to be a front line fighter. She will usually restrict herself to her basic karate skills, only tapping onto her ki powers if her opponent demonstrates ki abilities of their own (or other similar super powers). Her ki powers are as follows:
Appearance: Sakura stands 5'2" and weighs a mere 95 pounds. As she is only 16, it seems doubtful she has reached her full growth yet. Sakura has black hair, brown eyes and a well-toned build. Her hair is cut short, barely covering her ears and is kept restrained by a narrow white headband. When in the field, she wears a variation of the traditional "fuku" (sailor suit) worn by many Japanese high school girls. It consists of red sneakers, white socks, a pleated blue knee-length skirt, a white short-sleeved top that leaves her midriff bare, yellow neck scarf and a red high-collared armorcloth sports bra with red karate pads for the hands and forearms. Off-duty, Sakura dresses in the fashions one would expect of a physically active 16 year old.
