Background/History: Hank Waters was a trawler fisherman on hard times.Fish on the East Coast were getting scarce, and he realized that the next time he pulled into port, he'd have to sell his old boat, Man-O-War.One night he sat in his bunk thinking to himself, when he heard another person on board ship.He quickly found a very young stowaway who begged him to help her get to Boston.Hank didn't have time to argue, as a terrible storm started to rise up.He steered the ship as best he could, but in the excitement, Hank forgot to lash himself to the mast, and the winds blew him overboard. The girl tried to reach out and save him, but even as Hank told her to protect herself, a strange purple beam of energy shot out from the storm and hit her hand, at the same time that she finally grabbed Hank.Much to Hank's surprise, the little girl was able to pull him back on the boat by herself. And then they noticed that Hank's hand had somehow become webbed. Before they could make sense of any of this, a great wave came up over the boat, Hank instinctively reached out to stop it—and it did.Hank let the water fall back into the ocean, and the two sailors looked at each other and realized how much they had been changed.

Knowing that they now had a higher purpose to their lives, Hank and his new sidekick sold the old boat and took on new identities as Man O' War and the spunky Sea Urchin.

Personality/Motivation: Man O' War is the stereotypical "gruff old sailor", prone to dour moods and unfriendly attitudes. However, he remains somewhat idealistic, and has a soft spot for children that he is loath to reveal. In particular he has become close to Sea Urchin, who has stuck with him ever since the incident where the two received their powers.Because of that sentiment, and the prodding of his adventurous sidekick, Man O' War now fights the good fight against villainy.

Quote: "Ayyyyy... your mind's made up, in'it?Very well... we'll join this Freedom Force... but I know I'll regret it."

Powers/Tactics: Hank has been physically adapted to live underwater, gaining great strength and endurance in addition to gaining the ability to breathe underwater and swim with great ability. In addition, Energy X has given him powers suited to his affinity for the sea. With experience he will be able to control and create bodies of water (for effects like the 'Bermuda Triangle,' a water-based Entangle). He can also generate electricity, much like some eels, enabling him to act as a ranged combatant or charge his fists for hand-to-hand combat. However, the change also made Hank a cold-blooded creature, and Man O' War reacts badly to cold attacks, as he doesn't naturally generate warmth.

Appearance: Man O' War is tall and powerfully muscled. He retains some of his original appearance as a middle-aged man, craggy-faced with grey hair and side whiskers, and wearing an eyepatch to conceal a scar most likely incurred long ago in his fishing career. However, Energy X has visibly mutated Hank Waters, with his skin turned the pale blue color of sea foam, and his hands and feet are webbed. His costume is based on a 'sea god' theme, with scaly armor on his torso and heavy guards on his wrists and boots, topped with an ornate golden helmet. He moves through the air in a strange manner, almost as if he were swimming, and he speaks with a "Sean Connery" style Scottish accent.
