Danut Coman

Background/History: Danut Coman one of the last of the infamous Coman clan, who trace their linage back to the days of Vlad Tepes. As one of the few loyal to the Prince of Wallachia, they stood and fought beside him against the Turks and other enemies, gaining great fame and honor. However, the clan’s zeal in eliminating the hated boyars (nobles) proved to be their undoing, as one raid resulted in the massacre of a Gypsy caravan after mistaking it for a fleeing noble’s entourage. As the Coman warriors left, a dying Gypsy witch cursed them and their decedents. With each new generation, the first born son would rise as a strigoi mort (a form of vampire) after death, brining certain destruction and horror to the Coman clan. Danut himself is a dhampir, or half-vampire, as he was conceived after his own father died and returned as a strigoi mort. As such, he possesses certain supernatural abilities allowing him to find, hunt down, and kill other vampires.

Danut has dedicated his life to destroying vampires wherever they can be found, with particular emphasis given to surviving members of his own family. He feels little to no remorse when he kills another Coman, seeing it not as murder, but release from an undead hell that none of the current Coman's asked for or even wanted (and if they did, Danut's efforts are that much more intense to find and destroy them). At the same time, Danut must live with the knowledge that one day he, too must rise as a vampire. Thus, Danut has sworn never to allow himself to love a woman; his bloodline must end with his death.

Personality/Motivation: Laboring as he does under his family’s curse, Danut is a somewhat somber man. He knows all too well the horrors of the night and tends to be quiet and reserved, looking down on needless grandstanding and showoffs. This attitude also extends to the possibility of romantic relationships—Danut does his best to avoid such things. However, this doesn’t make him a misogynist (far from it), he simply wishes to live a celibate life.

Despite his apparently dour attitude, Danut is a caring individual. He wishes to protect others from supernatural threats (especially those of vampires) and will do all he can to defend the innocent from evil. He also strongly believes in keeping his word once given and takes a dim view of oath-breakers and liars.

Quote: "Vampire! Hear me! I am Danut Coman and I have no fear of your or your blood-drinking ways! I am here to destroy you!"

Powers/Tactics: As a dhampir, Danut’s primary powers center around his ability to find and kill vampires. For starters, he can literally smell their presence. This allows him to avoid vampiric ambushes as well. He also known exactly where to strike a vampire to kill it and can match many in hand-to-hand combat. Finally, he can transform physically into a wolf, with all the powers and abilities there of, although he retains his own intelligence and knowledge.

Danut normally carries a broadsword, a French-made LeMat Revolver, and several knifes.

Appearance: Danut is of average height, with a lean, muscular build. He wears his straight black hair very long, reaching far down his back and past his waist. Normally, Danut dresses in contemporary fashions, but when hunting he wears a white shirt, black trousers, black gloves, and black boots. His sword is slung low around his hips, plate armor is strapped to his gloves and boots, and a large, semi-ornate cross is hung around his neck. Occasionally he will don a hooded white robe as well.

Designer’s Notes: Danut was created for a Urban Fantasy Hero/Horror Hero campaign loosely inspired by the Castevania series of video games. He needed to fit into 225 points, thus, he has a lot of room of growth. He’s pretty much as down-powered as practically possible. Remove any more powers and he won’t be much of a threat to anyone. However, to make Danut more powerful, you can increase is STR, DEX, CON, EGO, PRE, CVs, SPD, and defenses. Give him more general Combat Skill Levels (or a weapons-based martial art,) Regeneration, and various vampiric-powers (such as wall crawling, mind control, summoning of fogs, mist, and wild animals,) and so on.
