SILENT MOBIUS ZETA

GRIMORE

This section attempts to list and describe all the spells and spell-like effects seen in the pages of the Silent Möbius manga. Most powers demonstrated by Lucifer Folk are not listed, as these seem to be 'innate' powers as opposed to actual castable spells. Each spell will have the following items of information:

Page Number: The page number the spell appears on. This number will be the page number of the Japanese volume (or Side). If there is a Viz-translated trade paperback that also shows the spell, then that page number will be given in parentheses.

Who: The person casting the spell.

Spell Name: The name of the spell as given in Silent Möbius. If none is given, the name might be that of the spells most obvious feature (for example, if the spell is clearly a barrier, then the spell name will be "Barrier Spell"). If there is no given name and the spell's purpose is unknown, then the name will be listed as "Unknown".

Incantations: Incantations given while casting the spell. In general, these will be taken from various sources, not just the Viz-translated version.

Description: What the spell is seen to do in the pages of the manga. Naturally, some of this will be guess work. In general, I will describe exactly what is shown.

Game Effects: An attempt to define the spell and it effects using the HERO System. Some spells will get actually write ups, others will only be guessed at and given suggestions. Due to the nature of the manga, very few spells will be fully written up. Any spells that are written up will usually use a base of 60 active points.

SIDE 7: CHAOS

Page Number: 5-6
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Flight
Incantations: None
Description: Ganosa stands atop a ruined (or under construction) building and pontificates.
Game Effects: This is an example of the Flight power being used to get someone to an otherwise in accessible spot. It is probably also used to keep them there.

Page Number: 16
Who: Nami Yamigumo
Spell Name: Shield
Incantations: None
Description: A Lucifer Folk hurls a swarm of small insects at Katsumi. The bugs are deflected away from Katsumi's body by an invisible barrier.
Game Effects: This is a Force Wall. It would seem that Nami can use her ofuda at range to create barriers. Since the ofuda are not anchored, it seems a good guess that the barrier will only last a short amount of time (like a Phase).

Page Number: 32
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Spirit of Venus, [unknown], your strength make this bad [unknown] disappear. With the strength of the goddess born from inside emerald. .. with the strength...
Description: Katsumi impales the head of a Lucifer Folk on her sword and start chanting her incantation. We don't get to see the results of this spell as Kiddy fires her Graviton at the Lucifer Folk, destroying it
Game Effects: Unknown.

Page Number: 50
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Ganosa appears inside of Katsumi's hospital room.
Game Effects: To appear in this manner would require the power of Teleport. As can be seen in the next entry, Ganosa needed to penetrate the walls of the room and a shield placed around the room. Teleport would be the best way to simulate this power.

Page Number: 52
Who: Nami Yamigumo?
Spell Name: Shield
Incantations: None
Description: In Katsumi's hospital room is a sheet of paper with a pentagram on it. A glass half-filled with water sit in the center of the pentagram, while a strip of paper - covered in inscriptions - sits in the glass.
Game Effects: This is some form of Force Wall. Presumably it is a ward against spirits, supernatural creatures and Lucifer Folk. It has a lot of advantages - such as "Invisible" and "Personal Immunity" (so Katsumi could walk through it), as well as limitations such as "Focus" (glass of water) and "Immobile" (you can't move it once it has been set up.

Page Number: 53-54
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Barrier
Incantations: My [unknown] and 5 [unknown] star and fire lift up 6 [unknown] star. Ate, amaketo, vu gubura, vu dedora. Ruoram, amen.
Description: Ganosa begins chanting, eventually encasing Katsumi in a spherical shield or barrier. While Ganosa chants, a 6-pointed star (within a circle) forms beneath Katsumi.
Game Effects: This could be a Force Wall or a form of Entangle. An Entangle would works best, as once cast it no longer requires END, but the bubble surrounds Katsumi and doesn't restrain her movements. Presumably, she could use her own magical powers without any trouble, as her hands and arms are free, thus defeating the idea of an Entangle. Thus, it might also be a Force Wall.

Page Number: 53, 54, 57
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Telepathy
Incantations: None
Description: At several points on these pages, it would seem that Ganosa is communicating
to Katsumi (who he's captured) mentally.
Game Effects: This is either Telepathy or Mind Link. Mind Link can be used offensively, to force a contact with someone. In any case, mind reading doesn't seem to be an aspect of Silent Möbius magic, so if this is Telepathy it is only for communication.

Page Number: 57-58
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Ganosa gestures and blows up Katsumi's hospital room. He may also teleport away with Katsumi at the same time.
Game Effects: This is probably just an Energy Blast. It might be a "Side Effect" of Ganosa's Teleport as he leaves the hospital. On page 93 we see what is left of the room. It seems that Ganosa blew out one wall and then left. Thus, he may have used Flight to transport Katsumi away. Katsumi also seems to be rendered unconscious while all this is going on, as when we next see her (on page 69) she looks to be asleep or unconscious

Page Number: 59
Who: Rally Cheyenne
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Rally states: "They're doing a good job of hiding, but I know they're moving." This might be Rally's ability to detect Lucifer Folk in action.
Game Effects: As stated previously (in earlier Grimores), Rally can detect the presence of Lucifer Folk. This is a Ranged Detect, with a lot of Telescopic levels.

Page Number: 60
Who: Rosa Cheyenne
Spell Name: Teleport
Incantations: None
Description:
Rosa appears in Rally's AMP office.
Game Effects: This is another use of Teleport to get inside of a building. See the Grimore for Side 3 for more on Rosa's Teleport powers.

Page Number: 61
Who: Rosa Cheyenne
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Rosa forms a chair from the floor of Rally's office. She also produces a glass of wine on page 61.
Game Effects: This is a rather interesting application of Transformation Attack. Here it means nothing, since making a chair has no combat effect. This could also be an Entangle, since an Entangle makes objects with DEF and BODY. It should be noted that in Side 3, Rosa tells Rally that she "... can't create bionic systems from nothing." This seems to indicate that Rally might be able to magically create some objects, as well.

Page Number: 62
Who: Rally Cheyenne
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Rally concentrates (and looks fairly angry) and cracks Rosa's wine glass
Game Effects: In the Grimore for Side 3, mention is made of Rally's (and Rosa's) psychokinetic/mystical powers. They both seem capable of unleashing Ranged Killing Attacks that are "Invisible" and possibly "Indirect". Here, Rally is demonstrating some very fine control of her powers by simply cracking the wine glass.

Page Number: 64
Who: Rally Cheyenne
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Rally - who is fairly angry at her sister right now - tells Rosa she has "... something to tell you." An interesting sygil appears on her forehead and Rosa drops her wine glass.
Game Effects: It looks as if Rally was getting ready to launch a major attack here, but Rosa leaves before it can go off. Last time the two fought (Side 3), Rally shattered her sister's arm fairly easily. Odds are, this was going to be another Ranged Killing Attack.

Page Number: 64
Who: Rosa Cheyenne
Spell Name: Teleport?
Incantations: None
Description:
Rosa seems to vanish just before Rally's attack (see above) can be launched.
Game Effects: This is probably Teleport.

Page Number: 66
Who: Rosa Cheyenne
Spell Name: Telepathy?
Incantations: None
Description:
Rosa seems to be communicating mentally with Rally.
Game Effects: As noted above, where Ganosa is talking to Katsumi in the same way, this could be either Telepathy or Mind Link. Seems like a cool idea that the sisters have a permanent Mind Link, but nothing in the manga indicates this.

Page Number: 69
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Telepathy?
Incantations: None
Description:
Once again, Ganosa is mentally communicating with someone. This time, it is Robert De Vice.
Game Effects: See above.

Page Number: 69-73
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Illusions?
Incantations: None
Description:
Roy sees Katsumi and Ganosa on several TV monitors. Ganosa tells him, "You're the only one who can see this."
Game Effects: This is either Images or Mental Illusions. Images would work quite well (providing sight and sound) but would also be seen by everyone else. Mental Illusions would make everything Roy-specific, and Ganosa could hit Roy with just such as spell after looking for him with Mind Scanning. This could also be some sort of reversed Clairisentience, where Ganosa is allowing Roy to see into a remote place (Ganosa's 'hideout'). This seems to be a fairly complex and powerful spell, regardless how it is built. Note that the mental communication continues throughout the use of this spell.

Page Number: 81
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Katsumi is shown standing in the middle of a pillar of light. She is unable to leave this pillar.
Game Effects: As with the spherical barrier that Ganosa encased Katsumi in before, this could be either a Force Wall or an Entangle. Here, Force Wall seems the logical choice.

Page Number: 98-99
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Ganosa has embedded most of Katsumi's body into a stone cross.
Game Effects: This is an Entangle. It requires some special limitations, such as "No Range" (you need to place the target into the Entangle, not the other way around), and "Based on DEF of object", meaning that the Entangle can only be a powerful as the material used to make it. So, a stone Entangle will have a slightly lower DEF than one made from metal. Of course, this Entangle may require only stone, and thus get no limitations of that sort. Note that on page 143-144 Ganosa removes this Entangle with a simple wave of his hand.

Page Number: 105
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Shield
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Rally states that they cannot find Katsumi and that: "Ganosa must be hiding her in a shield."
Game Effects: This is probably the use of Images to create a shield that hides Katsumi's magical signature. Her aura is fairly powerful and can be detected by others who are sensitive to it.

Page Number: 128
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Ganosa is using what looks to be a mirror to view the battle between Robert De Vice and a Lucifer Folk.
Game Effects: This is Clairisentience. It works for sight only, and allows Ganosa to follow the fight between Robert and the Entity. Since he is using a mirror, it has limitations like "Focus" (mirror) and "Immobile".

Note that Ganosa seems to have a mental link to the Lucifer Hawk, as he tells the Entity to kill Roy remotely.

Page Number: 145-146
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Teleport
Incantations: None
Description:
Ganosa transports himself and Katsumi from Ganosa's lair to the top of the building where Roy and Kiddy are fighting a Lucifer Folk.
Game Effects: This is a simple Teleport spell. It seems fairly long distance, which means that Ganosa may be using the Megascale advantage. It should be noted that a large 6-pointed star in a circle appears as the two teleport out.

Page Number: 147
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Ganosa dresses Katsumi in her AMP uniform, complete with equipment.
Game Effects: This is a version of Instant Change, although it could also be a Transformation Attack. The latter works better, as Ganosa is producing AMP weapons with this spell. Considering the effect, this might fall under the realm of 'Plot Device' as there is no real mechanic to cover this stunt exactly...

Page Number: 162-163
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description: Katsumi throws her arms wide and blasts a Lucifer Folk with magic.
Game Effects: This is an Energy Blast with "Gestures".

Page Number: 176-177
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: Emerald Prison (my name based on the incantations)
Incantations: Venus protector goddess. Aphrodite imprison it in emerald as I command.
Description:
Katsumi chants her spell and a large pillar of crystal forms around a Lucifer Folk.
Game Effects: This is an Entangle. It stops sight (or the Sight Group) and may be "Indirect" as it forms at the target's feet.

Page Number: 180-181
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Pluto. This demon in front of me, send him to his death.
Description:
Katsumi makes a series of gestures and then hurls a crackling ball of energy at a Lucifer Folk. The ball detonates rather spectacularly.
Game Effects: This looks to be some sort of Ranged Killing Attack. It may be "Explosive", considering the amount of damage it does over the next few panels. It is interesting to note that Katsumi inscribes what looks like a 'P' in the air as she starts the spell.

Note: The Lucifer Folk being targeted here virtually explodes in a big blast of arcing electricity, smoke and flames ( I think). Roy states that the Entity has left, meaning that it may have teleported away while the attack was going on. The attack may be "Continuous" then, slowly consuming it's target.

Page Number: 184
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Teleport
Incantations: None
Description:
Katsumi vanishes in a flare of light. She ends up in Ganosa's arms.
Game Effects: This is Teleport, "Usable vs Others", at "Range".

Page Number: 187
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Shield
Incantations: None
Description:
Ganosa states that Roy will not be able to approach, as he and Katsumi are inside a shield.
Game Effects: This spell is represented by an "Invisible" Force Wall. On pages 190-191 the shield is broken by the light and love that Katsumi and Roy share for each others. Katsumi's engagement ring is the primary focus for this event. This latter event is a serious case of "Plot Device" in action, as it is not a conscious event on the part of Roy or Katsumi.

Page Number: 210
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Ganosa appears inside of Roy and Katsumi's room.
Game Effects: This is the Teleport power. See entries above for more on this.

Page Number: 211
Who: Ganosa Maximilian
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Ganosa virtually blows Roy in half with a spell.
Game Effects: This is a Ranged Killing Attack. As all we see is Roy's body exploding, it is probably "Invisible" and has "No Knockback".

Page Number: 215-216
Who: Unknown
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Following Roy's death, the building they were in is blown up.
Game Effects: I honestly have no idea who cast this spell, or what was cast. There is a lot of smoke, lightning and water, making it look like a mini-storm in the middle of the building. A lot of the building is sent into the street, and what is left is rubble.
