SILENT MOBIUS ZETA

GRIMORE

This section attempts to list and describe all the spells and spell-like effects seen in the pages of the Silent Möbius manga. Most powers demonstrated by Lucifer Folk are not listed, as these seem to be 'innate' powers as opposed to actual castable spells. Each spell will have the following items of information:

Page Number: The page number the spell appears on. This number will be the page number of the Japanese volume (or Side). If there is a Viz-translated trade paperback that also shows the spell, then that page number will be given in parentheses.

Who: The person casting the spell.

Spell Name: The name of the spell as given in Silent Möbius. If none is given, the name might be that of the spells most obvious feature (for example, if the spell is clearly a barrier, then the spell name will be "Barrier Spell"). If there is no given name and the spell's purpose is unknown, then the name will be listed as "Unknown".

Incantations: Incantations given while casting the spell. In general, these will be taken from various sources, not just the Viz-translated version.

Description: What the spell is seen to do in the pages of the manga. Naturally, some of this will be guess work. In general, I will describe exactly what is shown.

Game Effects: An attempt to define the spell and it effects using the HERO System. Some spells will get actually write ups, others will only be guessed at and given suggestions. Due to the nature of the manga, very few spells will be fully written up. Any spells that are written up will usually use a base of 60 active points.

Disclaimer: Side 12 has a number of spells that push the "plot device" envelope. Basically everything from page 126 on is no longer stuff you would expect to be seen consistently in a game, but instead is in the realm of "one-shot-save-the-world-mode.". Basically it is all plot-device and special effects. Spells cast before that page will be described as best as I can. In addition, the sheer number of spells cast means that some of the spells with be given only brief descriptions.

SIDE 12: LIFE

Page Number: 5-8
Who: Ganossa Maximilian
Spell Name: Project Gaia
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Ganossa is merging the moon with Nemesis. Lightning falls from the sky, a tsunami slams into Tokyo from the bay, and the cyclotron fires up with a great discharge of energy. A glowing magic circle appears, crisscrossing the city of Tokyo. The glow is visible from the air, and is commented on by Lum Cheng and Nami.
Game Effects: The sheer scale of this spell is beyond the scope of game terminology. In effect it Extra-Dimensional Movement on a planetary scale.

Page Number: 13-14
Who: NA
Who: Ganossa Maximilian
Spell Name: Project Gaia
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
The glowing circle is in the air as well. There are six Lucifer Folk, one at each of Tokyo's six magical points. Each of these beings are anchoring the points of a six-pointed star. In the center of the star a gate to Nemesis is opening, which will allow full access between Earth and Nemesis.
Game Effects: This sequence of panels shows that Project Gaia is basically the opening of a gate between two worlds. Building a spell like this can be done using the rules for Gates found in Mystic Masters and The Ultimate Supermage. Briefly put, a gate is built by applying the following modifiers to Extra-Dimensional Movement: "Continuous" (+1), "Usable by Others" (+1/4), "Open Both Ways" (-1/2), and "Stays Open Until Creator's Next Phase" (-1/2). This means that the portal is open both from the creator's side and from the far side of the gate (thus, things you don't want around can wander in) and the gate remains open for at least one full phase (including the segments in between) once it is created.

Page Number: 16
Who: Lum Cheng
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: Unknown
Description:
Lum fires an unidentified spell at a Lucifer Folk.
Game Effects: NA

Page Number: 17
Who: Lum Cheng
Spell Name: Calling down the thunder
Incantations: Jesso!! Call down the thunder!!
Description:
After Lum makes her request of Jesso, the next panel shows an explosive effect.
Game Effects: Based on the spell name, "calling down the thunder" is probably a physical Energy Blast. It might have "Explosion" (+1/2) as an Advantage.

Page Number: 21
Who: Mana Isozaki
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations:
Noumaku Sanman Tabasara Dansen Damakara Shiyadasowataya Untarakan man!!
Description:
Mana fires off what looks to be a glowing sphere of energy at a Lucifer Folk.
Game Effects: This is either an Energy Blast of a Ranged Killing Attack.

Page Number: 26
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: NA
Incantations: Grospolina, Emperor of Swords!! Blade Form!!
Description: Katsumi levitates the two halves of Grospolina into the air and then merges them together, reforming her sword. Grospolina comments that he had been split in half, and that Avalanche Wong's treatment was "perfect." Grospolina as states that he feels 300 years younger.
Game Effects: This is a simple special effect for Katsumi summoning her sword.

Page Number: 29
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name:
NA
Incantations: None
Description: Katsumi leaps into the air and slashes Grospolina at a Lucifer Folk. There is a bright white flare of energy, which slams into the Lucifer Folk's barrier.
Game Effects: This is either an Energy Blast of a Ranged Killing Attack. It might be "Area of Effect: Line" (+1). As an interesting side note, the Lucifer Hawk states: "Is that a Martian Elemental intelligent sword! You're using it without a recitation?" which provides some clue as to Grospolina's true nature. It is also interesting to note that Grospolina's blade appears as a white beam of energy from here on out.

Page Number: 30-31
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: Barrier
Incantations: None
Description:
The Lucifer Folk spits a ball of glowing energy at Katsumi. She holds up Grospolina as if to deflect it, and the ball explodes against a shimmering barrier of magical energy.
Game Effects: This is the standard Silent Möbius barrier, which is bought as a Force Wall.

Page Number: 33-34
Who: Nami Yamigumo
Spell Name:
NA
Incantations: NA
Description:

Nami is fighting a Lucifer Folk on these two pages. Initially she uses the Sword of the White Tiger to block or deflect incoming attacks. The sword may be able to Dispel magical attacks or function as a form of Missile Deflection versus magical attacks. She then produces a cymbal, which she holds up in front of her as the Lucifer Folk launches another attack. This object seems to create a small barrier in front of her, acting as a Force Wall. The attack flares around her and then detonates into a huge explosion.
Game Effects: See above.

Page Number: 36-38
Who: Lum Cheng
Spell Name: See below.
Incantations: See below.
Description:
Lum Cheng is fighting a Lucifer Folk on these three pages. Her first attack is a huge, writhing dragon or serpent bristling with what look to be electrical discharges. This might be some sort of electrical attack, or her water dragon spell (since Jesso hasn't been shown hurling electrical attacks before). The spell is also "Area of Effect" (+1), with either the Radius or Any option. It also looks to have the "No Knockback" (-1/4) limitation.

After casting this spell, Lum uses Jesso to fly to another building. As mentioned before, this is Flight, bought with a focus (Jesso).

Lum then asks Jesso to "Call down the wind!!" and points the spear at a nearby building. A crescent of energy (or wind) shoots out and cuts a nearby building in half, dropping it into the street (and onto a Lucifer Folk). At best guess, this is a physical Energy Blast (or more likely) a Ranged Killing Attack with the "Area of Effect: Line" (+1) Advantage.
Game Effects: See above.

Page Number: 44-45
Who: Mana Isozaki
Spell Name: NA
Incantations: NA
Description:
Mana is fighting two Lucifer Folk on these pages. She hurls some explosive spell at one point, and then is blasted about. As an interesting side note, Mana is blasted through a building (or two) and suffers only minor injuries. This may be some sort of Force Field, or simply a lot of PD and ED. Note that this is not the first time a character has survived an attack that would (or should) have killed anyone else.
Game Effects: See above.

Page Number: 49
Who: Rally Cheyenne
Spell Name: Unknown
Incantations: None
Description:
Rally powers up and the surrounding area is filled with a blinding white light.
Game Effects: Hard to say. At the very least, Rally's summoning of her power is resulting a Change Environment (light) over a huge area.

Page Number: 51-53
Description: As a quick note, Nami looses her right hand, and Lum her left eye. Nami pulls two ofuda from her robes, while Lum has to deal with Jesso snapping in two. Fortunately for all concerned, all the Lucifer Folk vanish a page later.

Page Number: 56-81 (or there about)
Description: Over these twenty some-odd pages, Ganossa links himself up with the cyclotron, absorbing several Lucifer Folk bodies into his own and then ripping open a hole in the fabric of the universe. Ganossa is just huge in this form, easily miles in height. Rally states that Ganossa has created a space-time distortion which will merge Earth and Nemesis together, resulting in the destruction of both worlds (as well as converting the galaxy into energy).

Page Number: 108-109
Description: Just about everyone in the AMP fires off an attack over these two pages. In order:
Mana: Her spell has the following incantations: "Noumakusanman Tabasara Dansen Damakara Shiyada Sowataka Untara Takanman!! On Kirikiri Kirikiri Noumakusanman Tabasara Dansen Damakara Shiyada Sowataka Untara Takanman!!"
Lum Cheng: She states: "Jesso!! Call down the thunder."
Nami: She cuts the air with the Kirin Dagger.
Other spells are cast, but the exact effects are unclear.

Page Number: 121-123
Description: As with pages 108-109, the AMP unleashes a large number of spells. There is no real dialogue here, only a voice over by Katsumi Liqueur.

Page Number: 127-129 (approximately)
Who: Katsumi Liqueur
Spell Name: Unknown.
Incantations:
God of protection!! God of this planet's soul!! Now give me the gift of your power this once!! Twelve planet's spirits and the Earth as well!! Earth's God of protection!! Gaia!! By Katsumi Liqueur's name, become the light that holds up the sky!! Shut off this wicked light!!
Description:
Katsumi blows up Ganossa.
Game Effects: This is a huge Explosive Energy Blast and/or Ranged Killing Attack. It is also a pure plot device spell, since it is cast at the climatic end of the series.
